Federal laws require all marketers who make sales calls to
consumers (or have calls to consumers made on their behalf) to comply with the
rules established by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal
Communication Commission (FCC). These
rules require all telemarketers to register with the FTC at www.telemarketing.donotcall.gov
. This registration process includes creating a user profile. See information below for additional
details:
An organization or individual must
have a profile to access telephone numbers in the National Registry. The steps
required prior to accessing telephone numbers are:
- Provide information about you
or your organization, your organization's function, and about the
organization’s authorized representative. Review the information to make
sure it is correct.
- Certify that your you and or
your organization will comply with the requirements of the National
Registry.
- Receive log-in information
(organization ID, passwords).
- Receive emails and click on
the link in the email to confirm your email address is correct.
- Log in with your organization
ID and the Representative password.
- If you are a telemarketer or
service provider, provide information about your clients. If your client
does not have a current Subscription Account Number, you must create a
profile for that client. If your client does have a current Subscription
Account Number (SAN), you must enter the SAN.
- Subscribe to the area codes
you market too.
- If a fee is owed, pay for your
subscription. (The first 5 area
codes are free) any additional area codes are billed at a rate of $25.00
per area code. This fee licenses
you for a period of one year
- Wait for your subscription to
be accepted.
- If your subscription is
accepted, you will be assigned a Subscription Account Number.
To create a profile, you must be
your organization's authorized representative for the National Do Not Call
Registry. The responsibilities of an authorized representative are:
- Certify that you or your organization will comply with
the requirements of the National Registry.
- Manage representative and
downloader passwords.
- Pay for area codes, if a
fee is owed.
- Serve as the point of contact
when your organization submits requests for assistance to the Help Desk.
- Serve as the point of contact
for law enforcement purposes.
